Evaluate the collection area
Tell us about your operation and the acreage you are seeking. Discuss which parts of the stand can be worked, access for equipment, loading areas and the timing of collection. Tract acreage alone is not a promise of workable acreage or straw yield.
Coordinate with timber management
Ask about planned forestry work and other uses before agreeing on a collection schedule. The lease should identify the permitted work and responsibilities for keeping access routes and the stand in the agreed condition.
Confirm the rent basis and term
Read the price basis on the published program: by acre per year or by year, as specified. Confirm the area, dates and payment terms in the agreement. A pine-straw lease does not itself convey timber-cutting rights, hunting rights or ownership of the land.
